Extract from: "Jumping in Muddy Puddles" - Chapter One.

My scarlet, sequined “ballet” shoes clacked against the paving with their little heel as I wheeled forward to stand next to Jasmine, who gazed at said shoes with disdain. I smirked and clicked the heels together three times.
“There’s no place like home,” I said cheerfully and she looked away, breathing heavily out of her nose. Glancing up at the clock, I noticed that we had fifteen minutes before we had to board the Train. I wished the others would hurry up.
“Meow.”
Jasmine turned to me again and eyed the lump in the pocket of my burgundy trench coat. I smiled softly and relinquished my hold on the trolley handle as I reached my hand into said pocket and pulled out the little white fluff-ball I called Mera.
She still looked exactly the same as she had when Gabe had first brought her for me, little, white, fluffy and innocent. Completely adorable. It had been a surprise to find that she was a special breed of magical kitten that never actually outgrew the “kitten” stage. So, in a way, just as her name suggested, she was immortal. As long as no one killed her themselves.
“Hey girly,” I whispered softly, tickling the fur under her chin. “Did you have fun in there?” I crooned. She gave me a somewhat incredulous kind of look that I took as a definite “no”. “Well that’s okay, you don’t have to go back in there,” I said happily, placing her on top of my dusty trunk. She purred softly and curled up on the leathery wood, falling asleep almost immediately.
Jasmine sniffed. She hated cats.
“Kaaaaaaat-ta-liiiin! Kaaa-aaaam! Over here, dorkface!” I looked up, my eyes flitting about as I sorted through the crowd, looking for the person whom I knew to be calling me. Jasmine rolled her eyes and looked the other way, trying to seem as if she wasn’t with me.
“Oh, bloody hell, Kam!” Finally, I found her – her short stature difficult to see among all the decidedly taller people around her. Lilith.
She and her sister, Juliana were standing quite a few feet away, Lilith struggling with her trolley as her small frame tried its best to heave it along. Juliana seemed to be attempting help her, while Lilith constantly shrugged her off.
Leaving Mera to Jasmine, I jogged towards them, grinning as I assessed their struggle. I reached them in a manner of seconds and grinned and Lilith huffed, blowing a lock of her glossy, ebony hair out of her glittery, azure eyes. She scowled at me as she straightened up, only to find out that the top of her head only reached my chin. Despite the fact that her eyes were narrowed and her nose was scrunched up slightly in a scowl, her delicate features remained pretty as always and I smiled.

Cough...

Cough...

Cough!

Blood was dripping from my mouth. I could taste the copper liquid flooding my mouth as I tried to get up from the ground. I couldn’t move, so I merely turned my head to look at you. “Draco…” I whispered softly, only to be interrupted by my own coughing.

I saw you as you got up from the cold stone floors and walked toward to me. I noticed that the sun was finally rising up when your blond hair softly glowed. There are tears streaming down your silver eyes, as you kneeled down near me. I frowned softly at the sight.

Why?

“Why are crying? We won, Draco. We finally won.”

It was true. We won against Voldemort and finally defeated him. There was no trace of his soul, so he wasn’t coming back. Not now, not ever. You shook your head.

“N-no, it’s not that,” I hear you say lowly. I could almost laugh right now. You were stuttering. The so-called Prince of Slytherin is stuttering. Instead of laughing I smiled, but I didn’t close my eyes. I didn’t want to greet the darkness just yet.

“Then what is it?” I coughed even harsher this time. I saw fear running across your eyes and I finally understood. It took all my remaining strength to sit up. “See I’m okay. There is nothing for you to worry about…” There goes the coughing again. At least now it is softer. I from the corner of my eye that Hermione and Ron were approaching us, both battered from the battles they had to endure. You got up and walked away. Leaving me…

Even though I was happy to see that my friends were okay, I felt my heart growing heavy as you turned around. You were my friend, too. Even though you spent most of your time annoying me as a rival, we were friends. I didn’t want to see you leave, with the thought of never seeing you again crossing my mind.

Despite my wounds I received from battling with Voldemort, I sprang to life and was on my feet. I didn’t have the energy to run, so I instead shouted. “Wait!”

You stopped. Hermione and Ron were quiet by my loud outburst. I was trembling and I knew it, but that didn’t stop me. I didn’t cry. I shouldn’t be crying now that Voldemort was dead and the world was safe. I should be jumping for joy and celebrating.

“Promise me that I will see you again,” I said bluntly. You turned around with a confused face. “Promise me that I will see you again.” This time I say it with more of a harsh voice. You actually smiled as you nodded. I wonder why you didn’t just say yes, but you agreed and that made me happy.

“Remember, you promise,” I say again like a little child talking to an adult. I smile and this time I closed my eyes. Darkness takes over me.

Good-bye, Draco.

Piece Genre: Humor/General
Submission Piece: An excerpt from a story I am currently working on called Invitus Adamo

The first sound I heard in the morning was a tapping. I tried to ignore it because I was simply too tired to get up and I intended on taking full advantage of sleeping in.

Sadly, the tapping had other plans. When it refused to cease and actually got more demanding, I cracked an eye open, searching for the culprit.

Nothing.

I shrugged and closed my eye once more. There were a few seconds of peace until the thumping returned three times as hard and determinedly. I groaned, feeling very irritated and sat up to survey my surroundings carefully. No one was at the door, my room was empty, the window.....

You’re kidding, right?

You’re bleeding freaking kidding me.

I stared, completely awestruck at the surely psychotic man tapping desperately at my window. I leapt out of bed and hurried to let him in. With a blast of freezing air, he tumbled inside, threw his broom to the bed that neighbored mine, gave me a quick hug, and bolted for my bed only to hide underneath the covers and shiver violently.

Never before have I been so utterly blown away. I stood there for a minute, trying to piece together what actually just transpired; trying to make sure I wasn’t still dreaming. Finally I gave up and turned to the man peeking out at me from underneath the covers.

“Oliver,” I began with a look that mirrored the amount of bewilderment and uncertainty I was battling with in my mind. “What the hell are you doing here?”

“Visiting.”

“Yes, I see that.” A blast of cold air hit me, reminding me that the window was still hanging open. I rushed to close it and flew to my bed to hide underneath the covers to snuggle away from the cold.

We sat there shivering fiercely for a few minutes until the blanket finally retained enough body heat to keep us warm.

“Soo… do you mind explaining yourself, Oliver?”

“Does it really need explaining?”

I stared at him. “You decided to fly on your broom God knows how far in the middle of winter when it’s absolutely FREEZING outside at-“ I looked at the clock next to my bed, “8 in the bleeding morning!!!! What’s wrong with you?”

“You’re not happy to see me?” he pouted.

“Sure I am, Ollie, but I’m also extremely confused.”

“Oh!” he jumped a bit as if just remembering something and reached into the folds of his thick cloak to pull out a small box with a scarlet bow tied around golden wrapping paper. “This is for you.”

I glared but took the box from his outstretched hand. The golden paper gleamed up cheerfully at me as if begging to be touched. I shook my head and smiled. “You even wrapped it in Gryffindor colors.”

“Well, it’s the best house in the world,” Oliver replied, even puffing his chest out a bit to illustrate his pride.

Summary: Voldemort is defeated and the whole Wizarding world rejoices. Students can finally come back to Hogwarts. Only, everybody’s blissfully unaware of a looming threat far greater than Voldemort. Everybody except, of course, a certain Boy-Who-Lived and Malfoy heir. AU SLASH

Prologue: (Part One)

Three things had happened that led to the defeat of Lord Voldemort, all of which were plans executed precisely and with almost no fail, all of which done with a certain risk, all of which Harry was involved in.

--

Ron and Hermione were sitting together in the common room when he came back.

“What does Dumbledore want?” Hermione asked at once. “Harry, are you OK?” she added anxiously.

“I’m fine,” said Harry, racing past them. He dashed up the stairs and into his dormitory, where he flung open his trunk and fished out the Marauder’s Map and a pair of balled-up socks. Then he sped back down the stairs and into the common room, skidding to a halt where Ron and Hermione sat, looking stunned.

“I haven’t got much time, “Harry panted, “Dumbledore—he wanted you two to come with us.”

Quickly he told them where they were going, and why. He did not pause for Hermione’s gasps of horror or Ron’s confused questions; they were going to figure them out anyway.

“So you see? It’s tonight! Malfoy will be carrying out whatever it was he was planning! No! Listen to me!” he hissed angrily when the two showed every sign of disrupting him. “I know it was Malfoy I heard in the Room of Requirement. Here—“he shoved the Marauder’s Map into Hermione’s pallid hands. “I need you to find someone who can watch this and look out for Malfoy, and also for Snape. Tell whoever it is to use the coins if anything happens. Hopefully the DA will respond.”

“Harry—“began Hermione, her eyes hug with fear. “Who could…I don’t kn-know anyone who could…”

“Ginny,” Ron butted in, “Go! Call her; she can do this for us! I know she will!” he was shaking and his voice wavered, but he stood strong and puffed his chest out. Hermione erratically nodded at Harry, and then ran towards the girl’s dormitories.

“Harry, are you sure…” Ron started.

“I haven’t got time to argue, Ron,” Harry said briskly. “Give this to her when she comes down, too—“he lobbed the socks at Ron. “It’ll keep her and the others safe. Both you and Hermione meet me in Entrance Hall.”

“Err, thanks,” Ron said, and then, “Socks, Harry?”

“They’ll need what’s inside it, Ron.” Harry finished, finally racing out of the portrait hole.

She was absolutely gorgeous. Her beautiful hair and that fiery temper were just a few of the things that made her so wonderful. Why did she have to be evolved with someone else?

It wasn’t fair. She was untouchable, the untouchable, radiant, goddess from the heavens.

The way she moved, and the way she waved her wand. He loved every last bit of her. To bad he could never have her.

He envied the man who had stolen her heart. He knew it was out of the question. They just couldn’t be together. Why did they fates have to punish him by putting this heavenly creature in front of him, just out of his reach?

Did he do something that was so horrible that he was being denied his true love?

Yes, they were two very different people but, her differences where what he loved about her.

It was agonizing having to watch this unworthy man touch his deity.

She was his and his alone. That scrawny little man wasn’t worthy enough to scrape gum off her shoes, let alone touch her.

He would love to go over there and hex that worm into oblivion. She would thank him and he would sweep her off her feet and take her far away. He would look into those eyes and get lost in them. He would lean in and finally share that kiss he had wanted to share with her since-

“Harry dear, are you alright?” Mrs. Weasley asked. I’m fine Mrs. Weasley just thinking.” Harry said quickly.

Oh she was definitely perfect, his perfect untouchable goddess

Chapter 1

“Fred and George Weasley!”

The twins looked up from the meal they had previously been shoveling in at the usual sound of their names being shouted down the stairs.

“Time to go Gred?”

“Definitely Forge.”

The twins ran out the door, leaving a table full of Weasleys and order members quite befuddled…until they saw a very green and very angry Hermione come running down the stairs.

“Where did those Weasels go!?” she shouted angrily.

Ginny pointed at the door, trying to suppress her laughter as Hermione ran outside. The kitchen remained silent until Remus Lupin spoke up

“She wears it well.”

Ginny couldn’t contain herself any longer and burst into laughter as the rest of the kitchen did the same when they heard the twins’ pleas from outside,

“Really Hermione- is this- necessary?” George pleaded.

“It was just- a bit of fun.” Fred panted, running as fast as his legs could carry him, away from the very irate Hermione that was gaining on him rapidly.

“I’ll show you fun!” She shouted back, firing jinxes at the twins as they jumped and dodged desperately.

Back in the kitchen most had gone back to eating except Remus Lupin, who continued to watch the chase from the window.

“It’ll be interesting to see how many pieces they’ll be in when she’s done with them.” He remarked

Mrs. Weasley snorted and replied, “Well they can fix themselves this time. Honestly, pulling a prank on Hermione of all people…”

“Even me and Ron are smart enough not to do that.” Harry added.

“And for good reason.” Ron said as the twins were led into the kitchen by wand point, followed by a triumphant Hermione. Though she was still green, she was by far a better sight than the twins, who were sporting pink bat bogeys on their purple skin, and on top of that, yellow boils, which judging by the careful movements of the twins, didn’t stop at their arms.

Lupin winced, “That’s a doozy, Hermione. That rivals some of the pranks the marauders pulled back at Hogwarts, and there was four of us.”

“Were any of you turned green?” She asked.

“No, but I believe James turned Sirius pink for a day or two.” Remus replied, smirking at Sirius who was eating at the table.

Sirius looked up.

“Not everyone can wear pink and look as good as I did either.” He boasted.

Remus leaned towards Hermione and whispered, “Believe me, pink is not his color. I have pictures to prove it.”

Post by quik_wit Fri Dec 19, 2008 7:48 am

Hi everyone. I just thought it would serve well to remind you all that the limit is 500 words (and if you didn't know that then you should've read the instructions, sorry) and that if you had more than that I'll be deleting your post so you can resubmit something of appropriate length. Also, over-length people make sure you check the list before you re-submit because Lildaani went through and approved some (but I was to dumb to check first). Thanks!

Lildaani did not actually approve anyone who submitted an over-length piece of writing, because she was too lazy to read their submissions. Also, Lildaani will now stop referring to herself in the third person. That is all.

Fanfiction Username: polkaking2
Piece Genre: Adventure/Romance
Submission Piece: G is for Gabrielle

from Chapter Four - - Is That The Same As Yes?

She pulled over one of the packages, the one with the 'G' scrawled on
it, and opened it. There was a small bottle with red liquid in it.

"What is it?" asked Ginny. She could not see the note from where she
was sitting, but it wasn't for a lack of trying, craning her neck and
leaning.

"It is from George," replied Gabrielle as levelly as she could. She
was very happy to know that the twins weren't totally avoiding
her. Gabrielle uncorked the bottle and swallowed the liquid. It burned
her throat a little and she almost panicked thinking it might be more
firewhiskey, but the flavor was very strong cinnamon.

Ginny's eyes bulged, "And you drank it? Oh Merlin, Gabrielle, that
could be anything!"

"It is a pro... to... ,eh, tip," read Gabrielle. This did not seem to
help, as the older girls each changed seats to be further away. "I am
well," Gabrielle said to reassure them; they were making her
nervous. Gabrielle's stomach growled, but she went back to the
beading. Ginny and Hermione shook their heads and tried to concentrate
on their tasks.

Shortly thereafter, Gabrielle belched. Gabrielle had not really
considered the words 'belch fire' in every way and only thought of a
brief ball of flame. So it surprised her because it was loud and long,
and also accompanied by a three foot whoosh of flame. Ginny startled
in surprise, Hermione shrieked, and two of the boxes the frames came
in caught fire.

Hermione recovered quickly and doused the flames with a wave of her
wand and a muttered incantation. Ginny was wiping up the glue that had
splashed on the table with her hand, glaring at Gabrielle. Gabrielle
covered her mouth in shock.

"Why the bloody hell did you drink it?" asked Ginny angrily.

"Eh... oy, zat food was spicy?" Gabrielle tried with a smile.

Hermione rubbed her forehead with the heel of her hand, as if fighting
a headache. "Really Gabrielle, you need to have more sense with
respect to Fred and George. They aren't always careful about things."

Gabrielle felt another belch coming on, and released it safely toward
the ceiling. Hermione sighed and shook her head again. Gabrielle
suddenly realized that perhaps she was not coming across as a mature
young woman. She was going to explain that the twins had really helped
her this morning and that she owed them something, but was distracted
by Ginny's distress.

"Bloody sodding damn!" vented Ginny.

"Ginny, please!" exclaimed Hermione. "What's wrong?"

"My hand is glued to the table, that's what's wrong!"

"Stop yanking your arm. You'll only hurt yourself," warned
Hermione. "What kind of glue are you using?" She picked up the small,
mangled metal tube and started to read. "Er, I don't suppose your Mum
has a bottle of acetone?"

"Acetone? I've never heard of that. Mum keeps all of the potion
ingredients in a closet in the root cellar, though."

Hermione flung herself on the rough floorboards in wordless disbelief, her hands millimetres away from the fringes of the sanguineous staining.

Ron knew better than to say anything. He was too tired and broken to trust any words that could have stumbled out of his mouth, particularly as all that was vaguely registering in his emotionally overloaded brain, was the thought that the remains of the fearsome Severus Snape resembled a peculiar red ink blot. He was soon thankful that he had kept his gob shut for once. It was a good call. Hermione looked up at him with heart-tugging anguish and began to unravel before his eyes.

“He was here Ron...he was here, I swear it. I just don't understand.....Oh, Gods! What if he was alive and we...we... we just left him, abandoned him. Oh, Ron..I swear that we thought he was dead. His eyes were so...empty, lifeless...and there was so much blood. He must have been dead, he must have.....”

A thought triggered a repulsed look on her face and she carried on in the same frantic vein.

“No..no..no..what if he was alive and they've taken him. After all he's done, all he's risked...they'll, they'll... mutilate him...,” she paused to dry heave and tried to regain control.

“We could have him, couldn't we, one of the others could have picked him up...right? Her eyes pleaded for affirmation.

“He wasn't bought in Mione. We all helped to lay out the dead, sorted ours away from those bastards. We saw them all. He wasn't one of them. You know he wasn't – that's why we're here.''

With that Ron stepped behind her, bent to clasp her around her waist and pulled her upright. Drawing her back to him, he locked his arms around her in a protective embrace, 'ssshhhing' reassuring noises and holding her with a firm resolution as she fought to get back to the floor. He kept his tough-love stance until her fading strength deserted her and she dissolved into him, dry sobs wracking her tiny frame, all her tears already exhausted. Only then did he succumb to his own weariness and allow them both to fall bonelessly into the threadbare armchair that was mercifully close by.

She wriggled awkwardly trying to turn to face him, managing to turn just enough to lock her guilt-ridden eyes with his haggard ones.

“Then where is he Ron? Where is he?”

Her earnest question rapidly morphed into her ear-peircing scream as the transfigured deatheaters converted instantaneously back to their true forms. The arms of the inoccuos chair reforming into the odeous arms of the stockier dark-wizard who propelled Hermione into the now waiting embrace of the former floor-lamp whilst clamping Ron's windpipe with just enough force to ensure that if he struggled any harder - it would be his last act on earth.....

“Now that's exactly what we wish to know..” the dominant wizard sneered.

An Extract From: Ulterior Motives

“What are you doing?” Draco drawled as he sat in the head commons, writing a soon-to-be-due charms essay.

“I am reading. What does it look like?” Her quick, defensive reply had only caused his curiosity to heighten.

“Well, Granger, you are obviously reading, but every few seconds your eyes turn to the window. Awaiting a letter are we?”

Panic splattered all over her face and she tried hiding it. Unfortunately for her (not for Malfoy) blood rushed to her cheeks and her blushing was very blatant. Yes, Hermione was waiting for a letter from someone, which caused her slight embarrassment.

Draco seemed to enjoy her embarrassment so much that he wanted to pry. When didn’t he want to pry?

“Oh really? It’s quite clear that this isn’t a Dear-Mommy-and-Daddy letter or a sincerely-your-friend note either.” He was delighted to be able to torture her with his patronizing words. “Do explain what kind of letter this is.”

“No, sod off Malfoy! Why do you even care?” Of course he cares about any and everything that could be used for later ridicule. “I am not waiting for anything except for you to leave me alone.”

Not completely satisfied with her reply he said, “And why would I do that, Granger? I mean besides the fact that you aren’t of proper blood status, and that you irritate everyone you come in contact with that is. If I let you be, chances are, I will miss the arrival of this letter.” And a chance to hound her.

Searching for a proper insult, (which Hermione thought was a bad pun in and of itself) she stuttered incoherently. It sounded something like, “Erm-m-shn.” Very incoherent indeed.

“I would beg your pardon, but I don’t beg your type for anything.” He paused, arching an eyebrow. “I demand your pardon!”

Caught completely off guard, a chortle escaped her lips. Draco demanding her pardon wasn’t exactly daily routine.

As quick as the laughter came, it left. Composing herself, she asked, “And what, pray tell, would happen to me if I refuse to oblige?” Returning the raised eyebrow, her thin arms encased her midsection just as mailing tape surrounds a fragile package.

“That’s just it. You won’t have to. I am going to wait here until that owl comes and that letter shall be within my grasp!” He smiled, proud of his analytical statement.

“You’re just full of yourself Malfoy. I cannot wait until the day I see your smug face in the obituary.” Growling to herself she tried to turn away from the table at which Draco was sitting.
