Re: Where the 7th movie should be cut...
Knowing WB, they'd want more money. It's also possible that they make up something to make it a cliffhanger for HP fans as well (which would be very annoying for us).
Asaelia, I'd have to agree with you. James suck. =.=...

quik_wit wrote:it'd kill the masses sure but they've got to know that that a cliffie wouldn't be too much of a cliffie, I mean anyone who read the book knows what happens and anyone who it bugs could always just read the book! Stupid WB, omly the true fans are watching anyway, just do it one long movie with an intermission! Sheesh
Well yes they could, but they do have to consider the people who've never read the books as well. And they are out there. My husband is one of them. He absolutely loves the movies, so much so that after we saw Order of the Phoenix at Imax last year he kept bugging me about when Half Blood Prince was coming out. You should have seen his disappointment when he found out it was pushed back to July of next year.
Anyway, WB has to appeal to the general movie audience as well as the fans. It's a balancing act that's tough to pull off. Some do it well (Lord of the Rings is an excellent adaptation) others not so much. You have to remember that it's a completely different medium we're talking about here and what works on paper just might not work on film. For me as long as the core elements of the story is there, then I'm fine. If my husband and our friends who've never read it understand what's going on then it's completely fine because there are details in the book that will just make the movies bloated and uninteresting to people like him.
*sigh* Sorry to get all tl;dr on you, but I get so sick of the argument about the movies. People tend to forget that they're adaptations and comparing them to the books is just going to lead to disappointment. I say enjoy them for what they are and have fun on the ride.
Re: Where the 7th movie should be cut...
I agree with mertonfanatic. It's like the movie 'Eragon' - the books were awesome and I adored every second of it, but the actual story didn't really start till about a quarter of the way through the book. It was all the boring stuff about his dragon growing up, albeit very quickly but still over a rather long period of time.
The movie was amazing and I loved it as a movie. I didn't like it as an adaptation, however, because it cut out far too many important facts and scenes that would have translated beautifully to film (in my opinion). As a movie, it explained everything it needed to and had a set plot, climax, conflict etc. but it felt a little flat to someone who'd read the book. I think that adaptations should stick fairly close to the original but the Eragon one didn't do it as well as I had hoped. Still, the movie was very good as a movie to someone who didn't have the book bugging in the back of their head.

Re: Where the 7th movie should be cut...
I agree with both of you... it's not so much that I hate the movies... I just hate the movies as someone who has more or less consumed the books. Naturally, there's that part of me that gets disappointed when they cut things out that I would have loved to see played out on screen (the Fred and George mayhem - especially the portable swamp - comes to mind here. I would have loved to see that filmed exactly as written). Anywho.... I just want to see the movie. Whyyyy do these things take so long??
Re: Where the 7th movie should be cut...
Eh I'd rather have it take a long time and get a good movie than to have a quick turn around.
And yeah, I agree, that's one scene I wish they didn't cut. But what ya gonna do you know? Although I will be disappointed if they cut Mcgonagall's chair scene and Molly's "not my daughter!!" scene during the fight sequence. I'm looking forward to those most of all.

I'm looking forward to seeing Lupin and Tonks' kid Teddy, I bet he'll be such a cute baby with his blue hair!! But ten bucks says I cry.... *sigh*
Re: Where the 7th movie should be cut...
Ten bucks says Teddy isn't even mentioned, or if he is, his metamorphagus skills won't be.

Re: Where the 7th movie should be cut...
Oh so true. And here was me giggling over pictures of multicoloured puppies..... ><
Even though he can't turn into a werewolf. (although I still can cling to the un-confirmed ideal that maybe he becomes an animagus and retains his metamorphagus abilities to be a multicoloured puppy ^^ How cute would that be?)

O my goodness that'd be adorable! I hope you write a fanfic about that Alex cause if you don't I will!
Re: Where the 7th movie should be cut...
lol I might do a one-shot just for you quik ^^
I think I could safely pretend that the 7th book didn't need to happen just to have Teddy XP
Well, at least I could ignore that Ginny and Harry got together. Parts of it were okay. >.>

Re: Where the 7th movie should be cut...
For me, I'm still disgusted (no offense to shippers) with Ron/Hermione. X.x...
Multicolored puppies. @@
>.<...The seventh book. Grr....I'm hoping the movie would change some of my perspectives about the 7th book although I hardly doubt it.
Depending on where they cut it, I'm wondering if I should just watch the first part of the seventh movie and ignore the second part. I think I might have nightmares if the non-existent epilogiue gets on screen.

Re: Where the 7th movie should be cut...
I'm anti-RW/HG too, it's just so... obvious... i don't know! I hope in the 7th movie they mess with the pairings some... like i don't know an onscreen Dramione and Ron could end up with Lav Lav and well I dunno not everyone marries someone they knew in High School so Harry could marry the random blonde girl Draco ends up with in the book! Yeah... that'd be cool... Ginny could have Blaise and Nev could have Luna... Happily ever after to be sure! They could cut it there! Just one long movie... Yay
Re: Where the 7th movie should be cut...
Dramione all the way~ Yeah, I know that I'm a Tom/Hermione shipper. But that doesn't mean I can't be a Dramione shipper too.
If Yates does mess up with the 7th movie and put Dramione instead of RW/HG, I will so change my views of him (despite the fact that I'm still extremely bitter about him not bringing Christian Coulson back as the young Voldemort). I think I could forgive most of the evil deeds he did to the movies thus far. Kekeke...
I think Ron does go pretty well with Lav Lav. I mean, I don't hate Lavendar but...RW/HG...:shivers:
Dramione...:sighs:...At least then we know that the names of the children wouldn't be...Hugo =.=...
Yes, I still have my rants about the seventh book. XP

Re: Where the 7th movie should be cut...
I hope Yates doesn't mess with the pairings. That's just disrespectful on so many levels.
Re: Where the 7th movie should be cut...
Yeah, it would be disrespectful, I'd have to agree with that. But...I still don't like the canon pairings XD.
I'm wondering what other things Yates will mess up in the movies though. How weird is it? I mean, they've had Yates direct three of the seven movies (or four of the eight) and thus far, I've only heard complaints about him. =.=...

Re: Where the 7th movie should be cut...
*shrugs* I like what Curon and Yates have done with the series. They're much darker in tone and a far cry above what Columbus gave us.

Omigosh, I hated so many of the names!
WHO THE HELL CALLS THEIR KID ALBUS?! OR HUGO?!?! Okay, Hermione would, but Ron?! What the hell is wrong with him?!
And HP/GW... I reckon Yates should just punch that pairing in the face, not kill Snape, and put some Snarry in there. ANYTHING would be better that HP/GW!!! Especially Slash.

That would make one horrible movie and anger a lot of people.

Probably.
But I'd still like it! =D

Yup.
I mean, why didn't Hermione and Ron call a kid Fred?
Sheesh. Show some RESPECT.
